3M Flawless blog
First off happy new year, I know I’m late but I wanted to welcome you guys to 2012 before it’s 2013. It’s been a crazy month as you know. I have quite a bit to talk about so let’s get to it. On the political side things have gotten interesting in the Republican Primaries. From a group of nine lunatics now we have 4 who are going at each other with everything they got, all to the delight of President Obama. It looks like after his victory in South Carolina, Newt Gingrich and Mitt Romney were neck and neck for the republican nomination. Both of these guys have more baggage than the over head compartment. Mitt Romney has basically contradicted himself on damn near every issue (including his support for Ronald Reagan) and Newt has not only got thrown out of Congress for ethics violations but he is chronically unfaithful to his wife (ask wife #2) and he broke up with his first 2 wives when they were damn near on their death beds. Newt is also known for playing the race card with his comment calling President Obama the “food stamp president” and suggesting firing of janitors in inner city (read Black and Latino) schools and replace them with the students that attended those schools. Another thing about Romney is that not only is he completely in the 1% (he’s worth a quarter of a billion dollars) but he revealed that he pays half the taxes that a regular person would pay. Since most of his income is through investments (and he has some accounts in the Cayman Islands) he only pays 15% in taxes on his earnings while the rest of us pay 30%.
Now out of nowhere Rick Santorum comes and wins a few primaries and totally steals all of Gingrich’s thunder. As of now it looks like Romney and Santorum are going to battle it out for the chance to lose to Obama. For those of you who don’t know about Santorum he’s and ultra-conservative that doesn’t believe in contraception at all. That means he’s against condoms, birth control pills, the morning after pill, lube, and any other birth control that you can think of. He also feels that homosexuality is equal to beastility and pedophilia. He supports home-schooling and is pretty much against women’s rights. All of these would make him prefect for the christian right (which is ALWAYS wrong) but an absolute disaster as a president (obviously he’s against the separation of church and state even that’s one of the things this country was founded on) but with all of this baggage the likelihood of him becoming president is about the same as you getting a pair of authentic Galaxy Foamposites deadstock for less than $100. Then of course there’s Ron Paul who has some good ideas, unfortunately when you find out about some of his racist connections and comments as well as the fact that he’s against all regulations on businesses and would have no problem letting someone die because he couldn’t afford medical insurance among other things, there’s no way you (or most people in the country) could vote for him.
OK enough of the contest of the craziness we call the Republican nomination, let’s get into the craziness of this last month in sneakers. If you got your hands on a pair of the Galaxy Foamposites, forget you. Yes I’m hating because I could get my hands on them but damn how many sneakers came out this month. It started with the Dave White Air Jordan 1 and went full on crazy from there. The next week saw the release of the Air Jordan 4 White/Cement and the Black History Month versions of the Lebron 9s, Kobe 7s, KD4s, and Air Huarache runners as well as the Air Force 1s, Blazers, and Air Max 1s (eventhough a lot of people go the kicks late). Then a re-stock of the Dave Whites and finally the All-Star pack which included 3 special edition Dunks, the return of the Air Flight Ones in two colors, and All Star editions of the Lebron 9s, Kobe 7s, and KD4s. Then of course there was the Galaxy Foamposites. The camp out for weeks, the riots in Florida, and that guy trying to trade a car for a pair. I haven’t seen this much hype on a shoe since the Yeezys. Speaking of which, the rumor is that the Air Yeezy 2s will be pushed back from it’s original March 23rd date to sometime in mid-summer. One of the releases that a lot of people slept on (myself included) was the Invisibilty Cloak version of the Kobe 7s. The upper that actually chances colors and the reflective swoosh makes it an extremely hot shoe (if anyone wants to trade a pair of the Kobe All Star 7s for a pair of the Invisibility Cloak deadstock in a size 13 let me know).
On to another subject that I know a little about, comic books. In month 6 of the new DC and they have already decided to change their logo (didn’t they change it just a couple of years ago?) Well it had to happen, the first cancellations of the new 52 are Mister Terrific, Static Shock (which was a favorite of mine), Blackhawks, OMAC, Men Of War (did anybody read that book because I definitely didn’t), and Hawk and Dove and they will be replaced by Batman Incorporated, Earth 2 (for those of us who were wondering what happened to the Justice Society), Dial H (a revamping of the Dial H For Hero concept), World’s Finest (not starring Batman & Superman), The Ravagers (spinoff of Teen Titans and probably Deathstroke), and G.I. Combat (which will be the first of these 6 to be cancelled). As far as I’m concerned, I’m buying less DC (I already dropped both Superman books as well as Captain Atom, Firestorm, and Justice League Dark). On the Marvel side of things, everything seems to be leading up to Avengers vs X-Men in April. The last issue of Avengers: Children’s Crasade and Avengers Sanction (which should both be out this month) will lead right into this event with the focus probably being Scarlet Witch on the Avengers and Hope on the X-Men. Since there’s the Avengers movie coming out this summer, Marvel has decided to start another Avengers book (which is now 5 [Avengers, New Avengers, Secret Avengers, and Avengers Academy]if you’re counting) called Avengers Assemble and it will feature the characters in the movie. Hey for all you comic book heads out there I need some suggestions for indie books I should be checking out. I just started Morning Glories by Image as well as Powers, Kick Ass 2, Incorruptible, and Brillant but I know there’s more good books out there to read.
I know I’m late but my best music of last year would be Game’s RED, Common’s The Dreamer/The Believer on the majors and Kendrick Lamar’s Section 80 on the Independent side as well as Tech N9ne’s All 6s & 7s. When it comes to mixtapes check out Immortal Technique’s The Martyr and Lupe Fiasco’s Friend Of The People (which was way better than his album Lasers). Before I jet I’ve got to RIP to Etta James, Don Cornelius, Patrice O’Neal, and Whitney Houston. I’m out, catch you next month.
