Shiny, Clean & Bright

The promise of cleanliness. The promise of brightness. The promise of all things good and new. Brought to you by the 1940s and 50s.

Atomic Starbursts & Old Pals

Back when I was a Freshman in High School, Julie was one of the "cool older kids" in the art room. 20 years later, she came to visit my home with her dog Poochie. My dear friend Mr. Stevers (who gave me the amazing Atomic Starburst Fixture seen here) joined us and wasted NO time whatsoever befriending both Julie and her four-legged traveling companion. 30 December 2009.

Winston: G.I. Pack

One of the 1950s Winston "G.I. Packs" of 4 cigarettes made to be strapped inside the bands of soldiers' helmets. I snagged this one years ago (with two smokes still in the box) at a flea market in New Jersey.

Chill & Cheer

A mellow evening of holiday chill and cheer at Steve's house with Scott and our pal Erin Taylor Bell, who brought us her always amazing vibes (all the way from Baltimore).

Fixed For Blades

A small, but elegant 1940s piece from my collection... Yes, the blades are still in the box.

Screen Dream: Pillow Talk

Rock Hudson + Doris Day = PERFECTION. Screen shots from 1959's "Pillow Talk".

Oh-h... Thanks!

Eight ads for colorful confections of the 1940s and 1950s.

I Was Curious. I Tasted It.

Everytime I happened upon another one of the ten ads shown here, I couldn't get over the complete and utter campiness. It seems that in the world of 1940s & 50s advertising, male bonding (to the level of queerness) sold beer!

Velveeta In Wood

Long before it became a white trash punchline, Velveeta was just another cute little convenience of the 1940s that came packaged in wood with a colorful typeface.
