Rediscovered & Reprinted

Illustrated images of the heroic and gently charming variety. Recent reprints (on postcard) of 1950s and 60s advertising art for food, drinks, movies and kid stuff.

Presto!

Never used and still in their beautifully-designed packaging... a nice eBay score from a while back. However, these tubes of color are rather dried up some 45-odd years later.

Small Jars Of Color

Afternoon. @ work. Friday. 29 January 2010.

Illuastration & Graphics: 1940s Cinerama

More items that I extracted from the motherlode of 1940s Life and Look magazines that I collected and sliced up over the last few years. (Full-size images are available in my Flickr Photostream.)

For Carpenters & Squaredancers Alike!

1940s and '50s Lee Dungarees and Workwear ads cast their illustrator's brush across many markets with very broad strokes. They spoke to the blue collar worker and the "at play" leisure seeker at the same time.

Gentlemen Outdoors

Fellas and their festive recreations throughout the 1940s and '50s.

Self-Teaching Hobby Art (By Craftint)

A self-teaching oil painting kit from my vintage art supply collection. This one is a 1960s set that I bought some years ago, amazed at how fresh and unused it was.

Janitor In A Drum

I've heard of Prince Albert in a can, but this is ridiculous. Leave it to the 1960s...

1966: Mr. Buddwing On Vinyl

A recent eBay win: a clean copy of Kenyon Hopkins' 1966 soundtrack to Delbert Mann's film entitled Mr. Buddwing. I caught part of this film on TCM a few months ago and enjoyed what I saw of James Garner, Jean Simmons, Suzanne Pleshette and Angela Lansbury tremendously. Then, of course, there is the music... and this gorgeous LP cover.

Dynamite, Panic, Gangsters & Lovers

A variety of illustrated and photographic advertisements that I unearthed from the golden age of cinema, thanks to myriad back issues of Life and Look magazine.
